Cadence Design Systems surpassed quarterly revenue and profit expectations, fueled by robust demand for its chip design software used in creating complex artificial intelligence processors.
The company’s shares rose nearly 4% in extended trading following the announcement. This strong performance highlights how the surge in demand for advanced AI chips is benefiting firms that provide the essential software to design them. Cadence specializes in tools that help map out intricate circuit blueprints and components like memory connectors, and it also offers software to check for potential issues like overheating.
The company’s Chief Financial Officer noted that strong contract bookings in the fourth quarter have resulted in a record backlog of $7.8 billion worth of work scheduled for future delivery, providing significant momentum heading into the new year.
Cadence, which counts major tech giants like Apple and Amazon among its clients, recently introduced a virtual AI “agent” to help companies accelerate the design of complex chips. This area of technology has become an increasingly critical field in the global tech landscape.
For the fourth quarter, revenue increased by 6.2% to $1.44 billion, exceeding analyst forecasts. Adjusted profit was $1.99 per share, also beating estimates. Looking ahead, the company projected its revenue for the coming year to be between $5.9 billion and $6.0 billion, largely aligning with market expectations. Its forecast for adjusted profit also met analyst projections.
