Ahead of a scheduled meeting between the leaders of Indonesia and the United States, companies from the two nations signed a series of trade and investment agreements valued at more than $7 billion. The signings took place at a dinner hosted by a major US business association in honor of the visiting Indonesian leader.
The agreements include substantial purchases by Indonesian companies of American agricultural products. These purchases consist of 1 million metric tons of soybeans, 1.6 million tons of corn, and 93,000 tons of cotton, to be delivered over unspecified timeframes. Additionally, Indonesia has committed to buying 1 million tons of wheat this year, with plans to purchase up to 5 million tons annually by 2030.
Beyond agriculture, the deals also focus on energy and minerals. A memorandum of understanding was signed between a US mining group and Indonesia’s investment ministry for cooperation on critical minerals. Furthermore, Indonesia’s state-owned oil producer and a US energy services company agreed to collaborate on improving oilfield recovery.
