On Sunday morning, a devastating motorcycle crash on the West Norfolk Bridge in Virginia resulted in the loss of two lives, according to reports from the Portsmouth Police Department.

The accident, which occurred around 8:00 a.m., is currently under investigation by the Portsmouth Police Department. Despite requests for comment, both the Portsmouth Police Department and the State Police have yet to respond to inquiries from USA TODAY.

Local outlet WKTR revealed that the motorcycle collided with a barrier during the incident. WAVY reported that the impact ejected the two riders, identified only as an adult male and adult female, into the water below. Tragically, medics pronounced them dead at the scene.

The accident transpired on the eastbound side of VA-164, leading to the closure of the eastbound lanes on the bridge as authorities work to clear the scene. The Portsmouth Police Traffic Unit will spearhead the investigation into this heart-wrenching case.
