UK Shelter Launches Fundraising Campaign to Support Adorable Kitten Without Hips

UK Shelter Raises Funds for Kitten Born Without Hips

A rescue in the United Kingdom, Severn Valley Rescue in Shropshire, is actively raising funds to assist Phoebe, a 7-month-old kitten born with an extremely rare condition of missing hip joints. The shelter launched an online fundraising campaign after Phoebe's previous owner couldn't afford her specialized care.

Kitten Requires 'Expert Specialist Veterinary Advice'

Amanda Ball, the founder of Severn Valley Rescue, stated that Phoebe needs "expert specialist veterinary advice for the best way forward." Phoebe will undergo additional X-rays and a full CT scan to assess her condition further.

Ball shared, "We know from basic X-rays that she has all the correct leg bones in the correct places, but she is missing her hip joints." Phoebe's legs appear to be backward due to muscles or ligaments pulling them into a stretched position (hyperextension).

Ball emphasized the necessity of a CT scan to determine which muscles and ligaments can be operated on without compromising the function of her legs. Major surgery is not an option until Phoebe turns one year old in May 2024.

Kitten is Not in Any Pain

In an interview with BBC, Ball reassured that Phoebe is not experiencing any pain, and the shelter is focused on improving her quality of life. Severn Valley Rescue aims to raise funds for X-rays, scans, and potential surgeries at Southwater Vets in Telford.

Ball expressed gratitude on the rescue's Facebook page, thanking the public for donations and sharing that they exceeded their initial fundraising target of £3000. The vet will initially work on making Phoebe's left leg stronger and stable.

"Again – we can't thank you enough for helping this beautiful little kitten," Ball added.
